Year Of Return

Elaine’s 5th trip to Africa and The ‘Year Of Return’

Elaine’s 5th trip to Africa coincides with The ‘Year Of Return’ for people in the African Diaspora.

In the year 1619, the first ship carrying captured Africans reached Point Comfort, Virginia. That marked the beginning of the horrendous Middle Passage TransAtlantic Slave Trade. 2019 is the 400th anniversary of that chapter of our history has been designated “the year of the return.” There are events and ceremonies commemorating that occurrence throughout the Diaspora this year.

I am grateful to report that I made my “return trip” to Africa this year in May 2019, by visiting the region of my ancestral homeland, Gambia and Senegal.

Tell my ancestors that I made it home.
