• Comprehensive Estate Planning: I assist clients with all aspects of estate planning with the goal of ensuring the orderly and efficient management and transfer of property during life, upon incapacity and at death. I partner with my clients to analyze and implement strategies to minimize estate and gift taxes, property taxes, and other expenses, while keeping in mind the personal and family issues that accompany such planning.
  
  My estate planning services include:
  1. Wills and revocable trusts
  2. Planning for incapacity with durable powers of attorney and advance health care directives
  3. Special needs trusts (including pet care trusts)
     
• Estate Administration - including but not limited to:
  1. Probate - representation of personal representatives (administrator, executor, or special administrator) in the administration of an estate,
  2. Small estates - (administration of estates under $100,000.00),
  3. Heir/beneficiary entitlements including petitions to determine heirship or to preserve a beneficiary’s interests in an estate/trust,
  4. Spousal property petitions - transfer of community or quasi community property interests from the decedent to the surviving spouse, and
  5. Affidavit of death of joint tenant or trustee.
     
• Landlord/Tenant: I work with landlords and/or tenants to resolve problems and conflicts regarding rental property.
• Non-Profit Incorporation: I can help you launch or relaunch your non-profit organization.
• Personal Injury: The types of claims I usually handle include those involving: automobile, cycle, or pedestrian accidents, slip or trip and fall accidents, home accidents, and accidents with defective products.
• Family Law Mediation: Mediation is a confidential conflict resolution process whereby I assist divorcing spouses in negotiating a mutually agreeable settlement of their property, support, and custody issues. If spouses are willing to work together in a cooperative environment, mediation can provide a positive and cost effective alternative to conventional divorce.

Design and Coordination of Memorial Services

I can assist in the creative design of meaningful and individualized memorial services that reflect the personality, values and legacy of the deceased. I am also available to coordinate and/or officiate memorial services.

Workshops Available

Oakland based financial planner, Marjorie Grace, CFP and I are available to give a workshop on financial and estate planning for your social, business or church group.

Attorney Profile

I have been a licensed attorney for 30 years. I am a graduate of Western Michigan University and University of Denver School of Law. I have been a solo practitioner since 1992. Prior to that I was Executive Director of a family law center, an adjunct professor at New College of California, School of Law in San Francisco and an Arbitrator at the San Francisco Rent Stabilization Board.
